Mike Tomlin's Praise for Cam Sutton and Emmanuel Moseley

Detroit Lions fans have reason to be excited about the team's top signings in free agency, as two of them are projected to start at outside cornerback this upcoming season. Cam Sutton and Emmanuel Moseley have both earned praise from their former coach, Mike Tomlin.

According to Tomlin, intellect and preparation are Sutton's calling cards. The former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach had nothing but positive things to say about his former player in a recent interview. "Cam is an extremely intelligent young man," said Tomlin. "He prepares intently each week, he understands situational football."

Sutton was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. He spent his first four seasons with the Steelers before signing with Detroit this offseason. In 2020, he started six games for Pittsburgh and recorded one interception along with nine passes defensed.

Tomlin also spoke highly of Moseley, who signed with Detroit after spending three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. "Emmanuel has great feet," said Tomlin. "He can change direction easily."

Moseley started eight games for San Francisco last season and recorded one interception along with six passes defensed.

The Lions struggled defensively last season, ranking near the bottom of most categories including passing yards allowed per game (30th) and points allowed per game (32nd). With these new signings on defense, however, there is hope that Detroit can turn things around next season.

Lions fans will have to wait until September to see what impact Sutton and Moseley will make on defense but based on Tomlin's praise it seems promising that they could be significant contributors this fall.
