Ford Motor has partnered with conservationists to repurpose old car parts and turn them into habitats for whales in the ocean. The automaker has donated more than 1,000 pounds of auto parts to the Coastal Ocean Vision (COVE) initiative, which aims to create artificial reefs that can serve as a home for marine life.
According to COVE founder and marine biologist Michael Fishbach, "These artificial reefs are not only helping restore damaged ecosystems but also creating new habitats for numerous species of fish and other marine animals."
The partnership between Ford Motor and COVE is part of the automaker's broader sustainability efforts aimed at reducing waste while promoting environmental conservation.
"We are proud to partner with COVE in this innovative project that will help protect aquatic life," said Kim Pittel, vice president of sustainability, environment & safety engineering at Ford. "Our commitment is to reduce our environmental footprint while improving our overall business operations."
While it might seem strange for an automaker like Ford to be involved in ocean conservation, their partnership with COVE highlights how companies from different industries can come together towards a common goal of protecting the environment.
As more companies become aware of their impact on the planet, initiatives like these show how they can leverage their resources and expertise towards making positive changes for both people and wildlife alike.
