St. Paul officials have announced that the city is moving forward with its plans for Pedro Park, an ambitious project aimed at revitalizing a green space in the downtown area.
The park, which will be located on what is currently a vacant lot at 10th and Robert streets, has been in development for several years. The city has faced some opposition from residents who are concerned about potential noise and traffic issues in the area.
Despite these concerns, however, St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter says he remains committed to seeing the project through to completion.
"We believe that this park will be a tremendous asset to our community," Carter said in a statement. "Not only will it provide much-needed green space for residents and visitors alike, but it will also help spur economic development in the surrounding area."
According to officials, Pedro Park will feature a variety of amenities designed to appeal to people of all ages and interests. These include walking paths, playgrounds, sports facilities, picnic areas and more.
While no specific timeline has been set yet for construction of the park itself or any associated buildings or infrastructure improvements (such as parking), officials say they hope to begin work on the project soon.
"We're excited about what this park can mean for our city," said St. Paul City Council President Amy Brendmoen. "We're confident that it's going to be something really special."
