Louisville-based global spirits company Brown-Forman has been making waves in the industry under the leadership of CEO Lawson Whiting. Recently, he was recognized for his commitment to ethical standards by being named to the list of World’s Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere.
Whiting has been a part of Brown-Forman's executive team since 2013 and took over as CEO in 2018. Under his leadership, the company has continued to diversify its brand portfolio through strategic acquisitions like Gin Mare and Diplomático Rum.
In September, Brown-Forman acquired Gin Mare for approximately $500 million, expanding their presence in the growing gin market. And just this year in January, they announced their acquisition of Diplomático Rum.
But it's not just about profits for Whiting and Brown-Forman. The company is also committed to giving back to its community. In fact, the Brown-forman Foundation recently made its largest investment since its formation in 2018 by announcing a $50 million investment in West Louisville over a 10-year commitment.
This money will be given to five organizations working towards improving education, entrepreneurship opportunities, health equity and environmental sustainability within Louisville's predominantly Black neighborhoods.
Whiting believes that businesses have a responsibility beyond generating profits: "As corporate leaders we have an obligation - both moral and financial - to do our part," he said.
With this recognition from Ethisphere as one of the world’s most ethical companies alongside other industry leaders such as Microsoft and Patagonia; It is clear that Whiting is leading by example at Brown-Forman with his commitment not only towards business growth but also towards social responsibility.
