NYPD orders all uniformed members to report for duty after Trump's indictment

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has ordered every member of the force to report in full uniform on Friday, following the indictment of former President Donald Trump by a Manhattan grand jury. The move is being described as a “precautionary measure” due to fears that protests may occur in response to the charges.

Trump had earlier called on his supporters to protest and "take our nation back" in anticipation of his indictment, which led authorities to put up steel barricades outside the Manhattan Criminal Court and Manhattan district attorney’s offices last week.

The department said even detectives who usually dress in plain clothes are expected to wear their full uniform as the city prepares for possible unrest. More law enforcement officers will also patrol the city in all five boroughs, although there were no credible threats.

Discussions between the NYPD and FBI have focused on potential threats against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his staff, courthouse security, and potential protests outside of the courthouse. The police department said it will respect First Amendment rights but won't tolerate property damage or violence.

Critics say that this move weaponizes justice system against political opponents while others say it is politically motivated. Earlier this month, Trump called on his supporters to protest if he was indicted later noting that doing so would possibly lead to "death & destruction."

In response to Thursday's indictment announcement by a grand jury regarding an alleged cover-up related hush money payments made by him during 2016 presidential campaign election; Trump vowed further legal action against not only Bragg but also President Biden along with other Democrats calling it Political persecution at its highest level ever seen before.

The Twitter account for Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has been contacted by Trump's attorney for coordination relating surrendering himself before Supreme court arraignment process which remains under seal. However critics call it politically motivated and weaponizes justice system against political opponents.
