Republicans defend Trump in wake of indictment by Manhattan grand jury

Republicans on Capitol Hill are rallying around former President Donald Trump after he was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury last week. The indictment, which remains under seal, is expected to be made public soon and could result in Trump facing at least one felony charge related to the Stormy Daniels ‘hush payment’ case.

In response, Republican lawmakers have promised congressional action against the New York district attorney and intensified their rhetoric with tinges of violence. Some House GOP members have even handed out symbolic ham sandwiches as a show of support for the embattled former president.

While some Republicans are pushing for more congressional action against what they see as a political witch hunt, others have expressed concern about interfering with prosecutorial proceedings. This has led to fears that the House GOP's focus on defending Trump could take away from other important legislative priorities.

The leaked news of Trump's impending indictment has sparked widespread speculation about his legal future. He is also facing three other ongoing investigations, including one in Fulton County, Ga., and two under the direction of special counsel Jack Smith.

Despite this mounting legal pressure, Trump's lawyers remain defiant and issued a statement vowing to "vigorously fight this political prosecution in Court." However, it remains unclear how much longer they can hold off multiple indictments across multiple jurisdictions.

Trump is expected to be arraigned before Judge Juan Merchan on Tuesday at 2:15 PM ET in New York City. The trial promises to be one of the most significant legal battles involving a former U.S. president ever seen - making headlines around the world over coming months as it unfolds.
