Former President Barack Obama is gearing up for a challenging fight as he prepares to take on his former rival, Donald Trump, in the upcoming primaries in Iowa and New Hampshire. Despite a decline in popularity among Democrats, Joe Biden has managed to secure the support of the Democratic establishment and lock down the primary/caucus system through a combination of adroitness, loyalty, and deference.
Biden is considered by many to have centrist instincts. For example, he has shown a tilt toward more border enforcement and refused to defend the D.C. crime bill. However, opposition to Biden remains latent with social media and mainstream media outlets eager to write about an insurgent troublemaker.
The battle between Obama's camp and Trump's supporters begins when Biden wins a resounding victory in South Carolina. However, Americans are not entirely satisfied with his performance as evidenced by recent polls showing another drop in the chief executive's approval rating.
According to a March poll conducted by The Washington Post-ABC News Polls showed that 38% of respondents approved of President Biden’s performance while 45% disapproved it; this was down from 45% who approved just last month. A Delaware man gave him an A grade while grading him at home-state president but despite this good review from one person doesn't reflect everyone else’s opinions.
Inflation has been one of the focal points during Biden's presidency as soaring prices have been plaguing Americans throughout most of 2022 causing discontentment among citizens nationwide; inflation peaked at 9.1% last June - this could be seen as contributing factor towards his low approval ratings amongst American voters across all political affiliations.
As we head into primary season for both parties' candidates running towards becoming their party nominees will face challenges from within their own ranks before they can face off against each other later on during general elections which promises to be a hard-fought, closely watched race.
