Vallas and Johnson make final push for votes ahead of Chicago mayoral runoff

With just hours left before the Chicago mayoral runoff election, candidates Paul Vallas and Brandon Johnson are making a final push for votes.

Vallas, who kicked off his day with a rally at New Life Covenant Church, later appeared with former Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn at a rally across town, pushing a message of unity. Meanwhile, Johnson attended a gospel concert rally and was expected to join supporters later in the day.

As severe weather is predicted for the afternoon on Election Day, the Chicago Board of Elections is now encouraging voters to take advantage of early voting on Monday.

In Philadelphia, six Democratic candidates are vying to become Philly's 100th mayor ahead of the primaries on May 16. The candidates include Warren Bloom, James DeLeon, Anan Domb, Derek Green, Rebecca Rhynhart and Maria Quiñones Sánchez.

The winner will face Republican David Oh in November's election.

James DeLeon is one of these candidates. A lawyer and former municipal court judge running for mayor on May 16th with plans to reduce gun violence as well as fix city schools after being hit by COVID-19 pandemic challenges while enhancing Center City's vibrancy post-pandemic era.

DeLeon is also an award-winning playwright whose work can be watched on YouTube under "J. Maurice DeLeon".
