An explosion rocked a chemical plant in the industrial zone of the city last night, causing widespread damage and injuries. The cause of the blast is still unknown.

Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after the explosion was reported, with firefighters battling flames that engulfed several areas of the facility. Ambulances transported dozens of injured workers to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The local police department has cordoned off the area around the plant, warning residents to stay indoors and avoid inhaling any toxic fumes that may have been released into the air. The authorities are also urging people not to speculate on social media about what may have caused this incident.

"We're treating this as a serious emergency," said Police Chief John Smith. "Our priority right now is ensuring public safety and minimizing any potential harm."

According to eyewitnesses, there were multiple explosions within minutes of each other, followed by thick smoke rising above the plant. Many residents living near or around surrounding neighborhoods felt their homes shake from impact.

The affected chemical plant has been operational for over two decades and employs hundreds of workers who produce chemicals used in various industries such as manufacturing plastics materials.

This latest incident comes amid growing concerns about industrial safety standards across various industries worldwide. Investigations are ongoing into what caused this catastrophic event, which has undoubtedly left many people's lives shattered overnight.
