US Monitors China's Military Exercises Around Taiwan Amid Rising Tensions

The United States is closely monitoring China's military exercises around Taiwan as tensions escalate in the region. The three-day operation, dubbed "Joint Sword," began on Saturday and includes planes, ships, and personnel sent into the maritime areas and air space of the Taiwan Strait. This follows Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen's return from a visit to the United States.

Despite Beijing warning against such involvement, US Embassy representatives in Taipei have expressed concern over these developments. They remain confident that China has sufficient resources and capabilities to ensure peace and stability in the region.

During a second straight day of military drills launched in response to President Tsai meeting with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy during her California visit, Chinese fighter jets simulated strikes on Taiwan while warships patrolled nearby waters.

Taipei condemned these exercises amid calls for restraint from Washington officials who claim they are "monitoring Beijing’s actions closely."

In an official statement released shortly after news broke about these ongoing drills, Taiwanese President Tsai denounced them as provocative moves by mainland China aimed at intimidating her government following her recent meetings with American politicians during a diplomatic tour of southern California earlier this week:

"The number of aircraft crossings into our southwestern air defense identification zone (ADIZ) on Saturday was unprecedentedly high this year - we cannot allow any external force or threat to disrupt our internal affairs."

China has not commented directly regarding their motives behind launching Joint Sword operations but remains steadfast in asserting its sovereignty over what it considers a breakaway province subject
