An Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agent overseeing a lengthy case involving Hunter Biden's tax returns is seeking whistleblower protection to testify before Congress about alleged political interference and improper handling of the case by the Biden administration. The agent has already reported information contradicting the sworn testimony of a "senior political appointee" and cited lapses that involve failure to mitigate clear conflicts of interest in the ultimate disposition of cases.
The Wall Street Journal first reported on this development when it received the letter from a potential whistleblower who is an IRS supervisor. He informed lawmakers that he has "information that suggests the Biden administration is improperly handling the criminal investigation into President Joe Biden's son." Although Hunter Biden was not explicitly named, lawmakers have been made aware of these accusations.
In his letter, this potential whistleblower claims there are examples of preferential treatment and politics infecting decisions and protocols typically followed by career law enforcement professionals in similar circumstances if they were not politically connected. Republican Rep. James Comer from Kentucky believes these allegations merit further investigation.
Hunter Biden has paid over $1 million in back taxes with help from Kevin Morris, an attorney and close friend. It now falls upon David Weiss, U.S. Attorney in Delaware appointed during Trump's tenure, to decide whether or not charges will be filed against him.
As for response regarding these claims coming out in public light as well as ABC News' request for comment, no statements were immediately provided by either White House officials or lawyers representing whistleblowers involved in this matter.
Instead, White House officials referred questions related to these whistleblower claims to both Justice Department personnel as well as representatives within the IRS itself; federal authorities working with U.S. Attorney offices across Delaware continue investigating Hunter Biden since 2018 without any clear resolution yet at hand due mainly because ongoing nature surrounding such inquiries still being conducted today throughout country by various agencies responsible over time within United States Government departments such as Department Of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau Investigations (FBI) or Internal Revenue Services- Criminal Investigation Division(CID).
