Secretary of State Antony Blinken Denies Involvement in Hunter Biden Laptop Controversy

Secretary of State Antony Blinken Denies Involvement in Hunter Biden Laptop Controversy

Secretary of State Antony Blinken has denied any involvement in a letter signed by dozens of intelligence figures alleging that the Hunter Biden laptop story was Russian disinformation. The letter, which was released in October 2020, sought to discredit The Post's reporting on the abandoned laptop and its contents.

Blinken stated, "It wasn't my idea, didn't ask for it," and maintained his focus is on his current duties as Secretary of State rather than addressing this past issue. However, he still refuses to admit outright whether the information contained within the laptop is genuine or misinformation from Russia.

Former CIA acting director Michael Morell recently credited Blinken with inspiring the notorious October 2020 letter that President Joe Biden used during a debate to falsely smear The Post’s reporting. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) accused Blinken of perjury for claiming in a 2020 deposition he never emailed with Hunter Biden.

Democrats on various committees and members of the Biden administration emphasize different portions of said deposition but continue to defend their stance regarding alleged Russian disinformation campaigns.

The Hunter Biden laptop bombshell first emerged when it was revealed that Vadym Pozharskyi, an executive at Ukrainian gas company Burisma, had emailed Hunter in 2015 thanking him for arranging an opportunity to meet then-Vice President Joe Biden before a dinner event held in Washington D.C.

In response to recent allegations about undisclosed contacts he may have had with Hunter during that time period and questions raised by Congress members investigating potential conflicts of interest surrounding these interactions, Blinken insisted:

"I stay out of political matters; I leave them behind when assuming my position as Secretary."

He added that testimonies from other intelligence figures provided sufficient evidence supporting his statement while maintaining neutrality regarding whether or not he now accepts if the laptop story contains factual information:

"My attention is elsewhere, and I'm focused on the responsibilities of my current role."

As the controversy surrounding the Hunter Biden laptop story continues to unfold, Secretary Blinken's denial of involvement adds another layer of intrigue for both investigators and public opinion.
