Local election polls have opened in Cambridgeshire, with seats on four authorities up for grabs. On Thursday, more than 8,000 seats will be contested at 230 councils across England. The polls will close at 22:00 BST and will include elections for Peterborough City, Cambridge City, East Cambridgingshire District and Fenland District councils.
The election will also be held for 14 of the 42 seats on Cambridge City Council, with by-elections in Castle and Coleridge wards. A full council election is being held for East Cambridgegeshire District Council, as well as contests involving18 district wards and 16 town/parish councils in the Fenland area.
Election polls are also taking place across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire where all seats on Bedford Borough Council, Central Bedfordshire Council and Luton Borough Council are being contested. Town and parish council elections across these three counties are additionally being held.
In Lincolnshire's South Holland & North Holland districts alongside the city of Lincoln itself – a total of fifty-six council seats await candidates who clear voting hurdles from residents who cast their ballots between 07:00 to 22:00 BST today before results arrive tomorrow evening (Friday).
