Hamptons Estate Where Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Spent Childhood Summers Listed for $55 Million

The childhood summer retreat of former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis has been listed on the market for a staggering $55 million. Located in the prestigious Hamptons area of New York, this seven-acre estate boasts an eight-bedroom main house originally designed by renowned architect Arthur C. Jackson and built in 1917 for Manhattan lawyer George Wellington Schurman.

Current owner and film/TV producer David Zander purchased the property from Tiffany & Co.'s chief artistic officer Reed Krakoff in 2018 for $24 million. Since then, Zander has invested "gobs and gobs" of money into restoring the historic estate to its original splendor with a modern twist. More than 30 people have worked tirelessly to bring new life to this cherished piece of American history.

In an effort to preserve authenticity while infusing contemporary elegance, Zander commissioned Paris-based interior designer Pierre Yovanovitch to renovate the home's interiors. Additionally, French landscape architect Louis Benech was enlisted to tend to the lush gardens that surround this exquisite property.

Zander spoke about his passion project: "It was important for me not just to restore it but also make it relevant again." He added that he didn't want future generations looking at it as merely another old mansion; instead, he wanted them "to see how beautiful it can be today."

The listing highlights several features that make this opulent home unique—aside from its significant historical value—including grand public spaces such as formal living and dining rooms adorned with intricate moldings and hardwood floors; state-of-the-art chef's kitchen; multiple fireplaces throughout; spacious bedrooms all en suite with luxuriously appointed bathrooms; wine cellar capable of holding over 2,000 bottles; gymnasium complete with sauna facilities; heated pool flanked by manicured lawns perfect for entertaining; and private access to the pristine beach just steps away.

According to listing agent Roberta Golubock, "The property is a draw for people who want a piece of American history as well as those looking for something with preserved integrity." She went on to say that it's not only appealing because of its historical significance but also due to its modern elegance and luxurious amenities.

This iconic estate has undoubtedly captured the hearts of many over the years. Now, it awaits someone new to appreciate its storied past while creating their own memories within these elegant walls.
