Peloton Interactive Inc. has announced a recall of approximately 2.2 million exercise bikes due to a safety hazard posed by the device's seat, which could cause users to fall off their bikes. The recall affects the Peloton Bike Model PL01, and those affected will be eligible for a free repair.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported that there have been 35 cases of people falling off their bikes, resulting in 13 injuries. In light of this information, consumers have been urged to immediately stop using the bike and contact Peloton for assistance with repairs.
Peloton shares dropped significantly following news of the recall, falling from $7.53 down to $6.65 during premarket trading in New York City on Thursday morning - an approximate decrease of nearly 8%. Over the past year alone, shares have fallen by as much as 39%, while share value is now roughly only at around five percent when compared with highs recorded towards late-2020.
