In a shocking turn of events, an Elkhart woman and her boyfriend were involved in a car-versus-bicycle crash on Friday evening, which ultimately led to the arrest of several individuals. Among those arrested are Dara Martinez (21) and Vincente Mendoza (43), who face charges for leaving the scene of an injury crash and operating while intoxicated.
The accident also involved 22-year-old Chuco Dominguez along with Trevor White (20) and Ella Potter (17). Law enforcement responded quickly to the chaotic scene as they attempted to piece together exactly what had occurred.
During their investigation, police encountered another individual at the scene - Domenick R. Butler from South Bend. The 39-year-old was subsequently arrested on multiple counts including child solicitation, battery against law enforcement, resisting law enforcement, and criminal mischief after his actions raised suspicions among officers.
Police Chief Michael Rayburn expressed disappointment over this unfortunate incident: "Our community has seen too many tragedies due to reckless driving decisions. It's disheartening that some individuals choose not only to put themselves but others' lives at risk."
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing several people fleeing after the impact between Dominguez's vehicle and the bicycle ridden by Trevor White. One witness stated: "There was just so much chaos... it seemed like everyone was trying to get away from something."
As more information comes forward regarding this tragic event, authorities continue their efforts in piecing together all parties' involvement in both accidents.
The families of those affected have been notified about these developments as they seek answers during this difficult time. Family member Maria Torres spoke out about her concerns for her niece Ella Potter: "We want justice for our loved ones who were hurt during this awful ordeal."
