A letter sent to members of House and Senate committees by attorneys Mark Lytle and Tristan Leavitt representing the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) whistleblower in the Hunter Biden investigation has revealed that the whistleblower and his team of investigators have been removed from the case at the request of the Justice Department. This news broke as Hunter Biden attended a graduation ceremony for his daughter Maisy with President Joe Biden and family.
The attorney for the IRS whistleblower, who had alleged that the Justice Department interfered in and mishandled the criminal probe into tax fraud allegations against Hunter Biden, met with members of Congress last week on behalf of their client. The letter detailing these events was addressed to both senators and representatives from both parties.
According to reports from DOJ sources, it appears that not only has this investigative team been removed but also they have confirmed that no retaliatory measures will be taken by anyone involved. Attorneys Lytle and Leavitt believe this move is retaliatory in nature while potentially constituting obstruction of a congressional inquiry.
In an effort to seek further action regarding this removal, Lytle and Leavitt have petitioned members of Congress to investigate what they consider "exactly the sort of issue our client intended to blow-the-whistle on" when initially coming forward about concerns related to potential interference within investigations involving high-profile individuals such as Hunteriden [sic].
"The removal substantiates our client's allegations," said attorney Mark Lytle during a press conference held after meeting with Congressional leaders. "We are urging Congress not only protect whistleblowers like our client but also take all necessary actions required under law."
Hunter Biden remains uncharged amid ongoing investigations into potential tax-related crimes; however, legal experts argue that removing an entire investigative team may affect any progress made thus far.
Congressional leaders across party lines have expressed concern over these recent developments regarding the Hunter Biden investigation. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) stated, "This is a troubling turn of events that calls for an immediate and thorough inquiry by Congress." Similarly, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) highlighted the importance of transparency to maintain public trust in such investigations.
As it stands now, both attorneys Lytle and Leavitt are urging members of Congress to look into the matter further while emphasizing the need for whistleblower protection in cases involving potential government interference or malfeasance.
With more information yet to be uncovered regarding this ongoing situation, all eyes will be on how Congress responds as well as any possible implications this may have on future whistleblowers who seek justice against wrongdoing within governmental institutions.
