Sky Mobile, one of the UK's leading mobile networks, experienced a significant outage at 2.07 pm this afternoon, leaving hundreds of customers without access to mobile and internet services. Over 1,000 users reported issues on their website concerning difficulties with internet connectivity and phone service.
Many frustrated customers took to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction with the situation. One customer complained about their mobile phone experiencing yet another outage while another mentioned plans to leave Sky as soon as they could.
This is not the first time that Sky has faced such an issue; in January 2022, thousands of customers were left without signal due to Storm Ali.
The Sun approached Sky for a comment regarding this recent incident but received no response at the time of publication. Interestingly, both Sky Mobile and O2 appeared to have suffered major outages simultaneously on Tuesday afternoon. Downdetector registered numerous reports from users experiencing problems with both networks' services beginning just after 2 pm.
Customers from all over Britain expressed disappointment through social media platforms like Twitter when discussing these widespread disruptions affecting their daily routines and work-from-home setups. The Independent reached out for comments from O2 and Sky Mobile representatives but has not received any statements or explanations thus far.
Down Detector revealed that issues started around 13:37 BST (British Summer Time), impacting more than 1,945 customers across the country who use either network provider's services—72% reporting problems related primarily to phones while others cited difficulties accessing television (26%) and Internet services (1%).
Several users demanded compensation for inconveniences caused by these technical failures which significantly disrupted lives nationwide during a critical moment where remote work is now commonplace amid ongoing pandemic precautions.
Switching away from 'big four' providers can result in substantial savings for those using broadband TV or combined deals; some estimates suggest potential reductions up to £190 annually on average for broadband users or more than £200 a year for customers with combined TV and broadband packages.
Despite these service disruptions, Sky Mobile remains among the most popular mobile networks in the UK. As they investigate this widespread issue, representatives from the company have offered apologies to their customers for any inconvenience caused by these unexpected outages.
