On May 22nd, the Waikiki Business Improvement District Association (WBIDA) will welcome Trevor Abarzua as their new Executive Director. A seasoned professional in urban development and management, Abarzua has an extensive background in both private and public sectors.
Abarzua's appointment comes after a thorough selection process involving several highly qualified candidates. The WBIDA Board of Directors ultimately chose him based on his proven track record in business improvement initiatives and dedication to fostering thriving communities.
Board Chairperson Leslie Chang expressed her enthusiasm about this decision: "We are excited to have someone with Trevor's passion for community development join our team at WBIDA. His expertise will be invaluable as we continue working towards enhancing the quality of life for all who live, work, and visit Waikiki."
With nearly two decades of experience under his belt, Abarzua has worked on numerous projects that have revitalized urban spaces across the country. Most recently serving as the Assistant City Manager for a major metropolitan area, he was responsible for overseeing downtown redevelopment projects garnering millions of dollars in investments.
"Trevor's achievements speak volumes about his ability to lead successful business improvement efforts," said Paula Hatfield, Vice-Chairperson of WBIDA Board. "His strong leadership skills coupled with a deep understanding of what makes communities thrive make him an ideal choice for this role."
As Executive Director at WBIDA, Abarzua plans to focus on further developing partnerships between businesses and local stakeholders while ensuring that ongoing programs align with community goals. He also aims to strengthen relationships with government agencies and seek out new funding opportunities.
