The Hawaiian Humane Society (HHS) has announced the grand opening of its new West Oahu campus, a move that is expected to significantly expand animal welfare services in the region. The facility will provide adoption, education, and community outreach programs for both pets and their owners.
"This expansion represents our ongoing commitment to improving the lives of animals across Hawaii," said John Kaya, CEO of the Hawaiian Humane Society. "Our goal is not only to find loving homes for animals in need but also to support pet owners with resources and education."
Located on a five-acre property in Pacific Palisades, the campus features state-of-the-art facilities designed specifically for animal care and human-animal interaction. These include spacious kennels, an air-conditioned indoor play area for dogs, climate-controlled cat rooms with outdoor access points called “catios,” as well as dedicated spaces for small mammals and reptiles.
"Our new West Oahu location allows us to reach even more people who can benefit from quality veterinary care at affordable prices," explained Dr. Jennifer Walker-McFadden, Chief Veterinarian at HHS. "We believe this extension will help reduce overpopulation through spaying and neutering programs while increasing adoptions."
In addition to expanding adoption opportunities for residents in the area, HHS plans several community-focused initiatives at their new location. This includes partnering with local schools on humane education programs aimed at teaching compassion toward all living beings.
West Oahu resident Lani Yamamoto shared her excitement about having easier access to HHS's services: "I'm so thrilled they're opening up a campus closer to my neighborhood! I adopted my dog Mochi from them years ago when I was living near town – now it'll be much more convenient if we need any assistance or if we want another furry friend down the line."
As part of its mission towards sustainability, the new campus will also feature solar panels to offset energy costs and a rainwater catchment system for irrigating the landscape. This eco-friendly approach demonstrates HHS's commitment not only to animal welfare but also environmental stewardship.
The Hawaiian Humane Society’s West Oahu campus is open Tuesday through Sunday, providing ample opportunities for community members to visit and adopt their future pets while accessing valuable resources like low-cost spaying/neutering services, microchipping, vaccinations, and more.
With this expansion into West Oahu, the Hawaiian Humane Society continues its mission of promoting compassionate relationships between people and animals throughout Hawaii.
